This city is a beast at sunset
exhaling the perfume of hot sidewalks,
the bouquet of warm bodies,
the fragrance of hearts and engines.
It reminds me of Paris,
of Toronto,
of Los Angeles.
This city's a dandy in the dark
tarted up for show in the
humid funk,
halos of moths surrounding the streetlights.
It looks a little like Mumbai,
like Shanghai,
like Sakai.
It sings and it swoons and it strums through midnight
the shouting of teenagers
the muffled thump of a distant bass
and the songs of sirens.
This city is every city,
the names are just nodes
Connected by culture
Intersected by flight paths
It stretches
and flexes
and breathes.
There is no other place,
and this is the time.
